I went barefoot

ONE DAY WITHOUT SHOES

1/4 million people participated in 1600 events around the world on April 8th.

Through everyday encounters with domestic poverty, we are reminded to not take things for granted, such as food, shelter AND shoes. Can you imagine a life without shoes? On April 8th, communities, campuses, organizations, and individuals banded together to walk barefoot for One Day Without Shoes.

FACTS:

-In some developing nations, children must walk for miles to school, clean water and to seek medical help.
-Cuts and sores on feet can lead to serious infection.

-Often, children cannot attend school barefoot.

-In Ethiopia, approximately one million people are suffering from Podoconiosis, a debilitating and disfiguring disease caused by walking barefoot in volcanic soil.

-Podoconiosis is 100% preventable with basic foot hygiene and wearing shoes

I went barefoot. I had to wear my shoes at yogurt story therefore I wore my black TOMS. When I went to the park I got stickers in my feet and the black pavement in the parking lot burned. As much as I loved walking about barefoot, I couldn't imagine doing it everyday. It is hard without shoes. Hallie, Bre and I all went barefoot to the movies, I bet we looked like hippies. After the movies it was about 12:05am on the 9th so we all sported our TOMS out of the theater. It was a good day. My thoughts and prayers go out to the children who are without shoes. Buy a pair of TOMS and TOMS will donate a pair of shoes to a child in need.
